Barta Tournament Entering It’s 5th Year |
| December 27, 2007 |
It is hard to believe that five years ago Capt. Tred Barta descended on the Beaufort Town Docks with a unique idea to have a charity family billfish tournament in NC. At this crossroad most tournaments would talk about how much they had grown over the five year period but the Barta Boys and Girls Club Billfish Tournament has maintained an average of 125 from the start. Once the word got out that this was a family friendly tournament focusing on children catching game fish and releasing billfish parents were hooked. Seeing a 6 year old cradling a dolphin in her arms like a baby bringing it to the weigh in is priceless. Having your son or daughter thrown into Taylor’s Creek by Tred because they released their first billfish is a Kodak moment.
Watching over the past 4 years you sometimes wonder who enjoys the tournament most, the kids or the parents watching the kids. For those of you who have never fished the Barta Boys and Girls Club Billfish Tournament we cordially invite you to enter and for those who have previously fished the tournament the count down has begun. We look forward to seeing everyone at the docks July 17th – 19th!
Reminder: In order to secure a boat slip at the Beaufort Town Docks, you must be entered into the tournament.
