The Barta Boys and Girls Club Billfish Tournament, presented by Volvo Penta is less than a month away and organizers are preparing for a fun filled event and hoping for great weather. The tournament will kick off with the North State Bank Sponsor and Artist party on Wed. July 15th followed by the opening of the event at the Island Style Custom Yachts Captains Party and dinner donated by Outback Steakhouse. What a great way to start the tournament. The children from the Boys & Girls Club will again open the event after they finish a fun afternoon of fishing on the Mystery Tour. A special thank you to Jerry & Denise Jackson, owners of the new sport fishing boat AVA D for sponsoring the Boys & Girls Club kids fishing trip this year. It is a special and memorable event for everyone involved.
Our biggest concern is still the health of our founder Tred Barta. "We have just found out that Tred has Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia, a lymphoma and its onset has been so sudden and so aggressive that they are thinking it is the cause of the paralysis. This stuff is highly treatable and the paralysis could even be reversed over time if it hasn?t been too late" said Anni Barta. As of July 23rd, Tred completed plasma pheresis and a highly toxic dose of chemo and is back at the Craig Rehabilitation Center to continue his physical therapy. Our continued prayers are with he and his family.
Tred?s goal is still to make it to the tournament. One way or another Tred will be at the tournament either electronically or in person. We look forward to seeing all of you in Beaufort July 16th – 18th.
